President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has unveiled an ambitious program aimed at enhancing Upper Secondary Education across the country. The initiative includes constructing 18 new high schools, expanding 33 existing institutions, and converting 35 secondary schools into high schools. This project is set to create 38,700 new educational spaces, with a total investment of 2,554.5 million pesos.
Four Modalities of Educational Strengthening:
- La Escuela es Nuestra: Focused on improving facilities with community participation.
- Expansion of Existing High Schools: Aiming to increase enrollment capacity.
- Conversion of Secondary Schools to High Schools: Utilizing existing infrastructure efficiently.
- Construction of New Schools: To be established in various states nationwide.
President Sheinbaum emphasized that the goal is to ensure all students graduating from secondary school can directly enter high school without needing to relocate, thereby promoting community ties and family proximity.
Details of the Project:
- New High Schools: Creation of 16,200 educational spaces across 18 new high schools, with an investment of 1,215 million pesos. These schools will be located in 12 states, including Estado de México, Nuevo León, Baja California, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, and Yucatán. Each facility will feature computer classrooms, laboratories, civic plazas, workshops, multipurpose courts, and administrative areas.
- Conversion of Secondary Schools: Transformation of 35 secondary schools into high schools in 17 states, adding 10,500 new spots with an investment of 759.5 million pesos. Beneficiary states include Estado de México, Guanajuato, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Jalisco, Michoacán, Sinaloa, Baja California Sur, Chiapas, Durango, Morelos, Nayarit, San Luis Potosí, Sonora, and Tamaulipas.
- Expansion of Existing High Schools: Enhancement of 33 high schools in 20 states, providing 12,000 additional educational spaces with an investment of 580 million pesos. These expansions will occur in various entities to accommodate growing student populations.
