Durango, Dgo.— President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has announced a historic investment of $3.7 billion by the Mexican company Fermaca Dreams for the construction of two major projects in Durango: Fermaca Digital City and Fermachem. These initiatives are part of the Plan México and aim to strengthen the country’s technological infrastructure and food sovereignty.

Fermaca Digital City

Fermaca Digital City will be a hyperscale data center with a capacity of 250 megawatts, located in the capital of Durango. The project includes four key components:

  • A gas pipeline from Texas to Durango.
  • A fiber optic line from the northern border to Querétaro, with branches to Guadalajara.
  • A combined cycle plant for power generation.
  • A state-of-the-art data center.

It is estimated that this digital city will generate at least 1,900 jobs during its construction and 100 permanent jobs during its operation.

Fermachem Fertilizer Plant

Fermachem will be a fertilizer plant located in Lerdo, in the Comarca Lagunera region. The construction is expected to create 3,000 direct and indirect jobs, while its operation will generate 250 permanent, highly qualified jobs. The plant will produce 600,000 tons of urea annually for agricultural use, contributing to food sovereignty and reducing dependence on imports.

Local and Corporate Support

Governor of Durango, Esteban Villegas Villarreal, expressed gratitude for the president’s support and highlighted that these projects will lead to the economic revival of the state. During his speech, Fernando Calvillo, co-chairman of Grupo Fermaca Dreams, emphasized that the works of Fermaca Digital City will begin in the coming weeks, including the construction of a 160-kilometer gas pipeline and a 2,000-kilometer fiber optic line.

Economic Impact

Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, also participated in the announcement, highlighting that the investment will generate thousands of jobs in the state and position Durango as a technological and industrial hub in the country.
