The Government of Mexico has announced that the semifinals of the binational contest Mexico Sings for Peace and Against Addiction will begin on August 17. The competition aims to showcase the musical talent of young Mexicans both in the country and in the United States. Performances will be broadcast every Sunday at 8:00 p.m. via public media and digital platforms.
During a morning press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that this cultural initiative seeks to promote positive messages through music and steer youth away from addiction. She stated that the semifinals will be televised across all public broadcasting channels of the Mexican state, expanding the reach of the project.
Minister of Culture Claudia Curiel de Icaza explained that the contest includes six participating regions: three in Mexico and three in the United States, with eight semifinalists selected from each. The first group of semifinalists will come from the U.S. East Region and begin professionally recording their songs at DLS Studios, founded by migrants from Durango.
In addition, participants will have access to iconic recording studios used by artists such as Vicente Fernández, Intocable, and Los Bukis, where they will be able to produce their musical proposals with professional quality. Experts from the Mexican Music Council (CMM) will accompany the semifinalists in their artistic development leading up to the grand finale.
The competition will conclude on October 5 with a live final, where young performers will showcase the results of their musical growth. Each semifinal will also feature guest performances by renowned artists from each region, reinforcing the inclusive, cultural, and educational spirit of this unprecedented contest.
