Between June 10 and 22, 2025, Mexico’s Security Cabinet reported the arrest of 1,233 individuals for high-impact crimes, including 22 priority targets, as well as the seizure of nearly eight tons of drugs, 671 firearms, 48 clandestine drug labs, and over 1.8 million liters of fuel. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced the results during her morning press conference, highlighting the ongoing progress of the National Security Strategy.

Sheinbaum attributed these outcomes to the implementation of the strategy’s four pillars: addressing root causes, strengthening the National Guard, enhancing intelligence and investigative capabilities, and improving interagency coordination. She emphasized that the strategy will be further reinforced by upcoming legal reforms to be discussed in an extraordinary session of Congress, targeting the National Security System, the National Guard, and the Intelligence and Investigation System.

Security and Civil Protection Secretary Omar García Harfuch provided additional figures: since the beginning of the current administration on October 1, 2024, authorities have detained 24,652 individuals for high-impact crimes, seized 178 tons of drugs (including over 41 tons of cocaine and more than 3 million fentanyl pills), confiscated 12,736 firearms, and dismantled 1,150 drug labs across 21 states. Under the Northern Border Operation, 4,619 people have been arrested and more than 40 tons of drugs and 600,000 rounds of ammunition seized.

As part of the strategy’s social pillar, Undersecretary for Human Rights Félix Arturo Medina Padilla announced 14 new community projects in Celaya, León, Salamanca, and Ciudad Juárez, focused on rehabilitating community centers, sports facilities, parks, and pedestrian walkways. He also reported 2,355 Peace Days, over 131,000 home visits, 21 Peace Fairs, and the creation of 225 Peace Committees nationwide.

Through the “Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace” campaign, 1,790 firearms were voluntarily turned in from January 10 to June 20 across 11 municipalities in eight states. Senior officials from the Ministries of Defense and Navy, the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, and the Office of the Legal Counsel to the President also participated, reiterating the government’s firm commitment to nationwide peace and security.
