President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, cast her vote this Sunday in the country’s first-ever democratic election of the Judicial Branch, a historic moment in which citizens directly elect judges, magistrates, and justices of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN).

“Long live democracy!” exclaimed the president after voting at the polling station located in section 4748, on Moneda Street, inside the Museum of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) at the former Archbishop’s Palace in the Cuauhtémoc borough of Mexico City.

With her participation, the head of the Federal Executive reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening Mexico’s democratic system and promoting a justice system that is closer to the people.

During this unprecedented electoral day, President Sheinbaum was accompanied by her husband, Dr. Jesús María Tarriba, who also exercised his right to vote.

The Judicial Branch election marks a historic milestone in Mexico’s democratic life by giving citizens the power to directly influence the composition of the nation’s highest court of justice.
