President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced that the long-neglected Women’s and Children’s Hospital No. 15 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Campeche will officially open its doors on October 30. The hospital had remained closed since its original inauguration in 2012 under previous administrations.
During an on-site inspection, the president detailed the facility’s features: 64 beds—38 for general hospitalization and 26 for neonatal, pediatric, and women’s intensive care units. The hospital will also include 11 specialty consultation rooms, three operating rooms, a breast clinic, clinical lab, mammography unit, X-rays, ultrasound services, and a staff of 753 health workers, including 79 medical specialists.
Sheinbaum confirmed that IMSS Bienestar will soon hire the remaining 11 doctors required to ensure full-time, year-round service in all state health centers. Additionally, complementary infrastructure at the General Hospital of Ciudad del Carmen—such as new operating rooms, a CT scanner, and elevators—will be finalized.
The president also addressed economic issues in the region, announcing that a plan has been agreed upon to regularize overdue payments to PEMEX suppliers following a thorough financial audit. Payments will begin to flow again starting next month, with priority given to small local businesses.
Looking ahead, Sheinbaum revealed that her administration, together with state and municipal governments, will back the construction of a water treatment plant and the expansion of the Ciudad del Carmen boardwalk. The event was attended by federal, state, and local officials, including IMSS Director Zoé Robledo, who emphasized that this hospital is one of 110 facilities rescued by the Fourth Transformation after being abandoned in previous administrations.
