President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced with pride that Mexico has achieved a historic milestone in job creation, with 22,430,931 formal jobs registered with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) as of February 28, 2025. During her morning press conference, «Las mañaneras del pueblo,» the President highlighted that this is not only the highest level recorded in any February but also the highest in the country’s history concerning formal employment.
Sheinbaum emphasized that this achievement reflects Mexico’s economic strength, the positive impact of labor policies implemented in recent years, and the fundamental role of the Plan México strategy, aimed at strengthening the labor market, attracting investment, and improving workers’ wage conditions. She noted that, in addition to employment growth, the average salary in the country has also reached historic levels, ensuring better incomes for Mexican families.
Zoé Robledo, Director General of IMSS, detailed that 86.8% of registered jobs are permanent, equating to 19,461,202 positions, while 2,969,729 are temporary. He also highlighted that 40% of the IMSS-affiliated workforce comprises women, with 9,037,569 jobs occupied by female workers. So far in 2025, 192,552 new jobs have been created, of which 54.2% are permanent, confirming the trend of an increasingly stable labor market.
A significant data point presented during the conference was the increase in the base salary for contributions, which reached 619.6 pesos per day, the highest recorded in IMSS’s history. This represents a 7.5% growth over the past year, with a daily increase of 43 pesos, driven by labor reforms and the annual increase in the minimum wage.
