Less than seven months into her term, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted the progress of strategic railway projects across the country, including the new passenger routes AIFA–Pachuca and Mexico City–Querétaro, as well as the freight line of the Tren Maya. These works, carried out by military engineers from the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), are part of a strong push for public investment and national development.

During the morning press conference “Las Mañaneras del Pueblo,” the president emphasized that the government is moving full steam ahead: “We work every day to drive public and private investment. We don’t wait for the market to act.” She also noted that projects from the previous administration continue, such as the Interoceanic Train and various electrical, hydraulic, and hospital infrastructure initiatives.

Gustavo Ricardo Vallejo Suárez, commander of the “Felipe Ángeles” Engineer Group, reported that the AIFA–Pachuca train, spanning 57 kilometers of double track, is progressing across 10 work fronts with 10,300 workers. As for the 226-kilometer Mexico City–Querétaro route, 1,600 workers are currently engaged in track preparation, clearing, and coordination with Pemex, Cenagas, and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), with 76% of the archaeological surveying already completed.

Regarding the Querétaro–Irapuato (108 km) and Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo (398 km) rail projects, Vallejo Suárez stated that basic engineering is 70% and 96% complete, respectively, and will be delivered to the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport (SICT) by June 30. Construction has also begun on the multimodal terminals in Palenque, Poxilá, Progreso, and Cancún, part of the Tren Maya freight network.

Andrés Lajous Loaeza, head of the Federal Rail Transport Regulatory Agency, announced that bidding for the Apaseo el Grande–Querétaro and Unión San Javier–Arroyo El Sauz segments was published on May 19 and 20. These routes are expected to handle an estimated 4 to 5.5 million trips annually. Contract awards are scheduled for the fourth week of July, reinforcing the advancement of the national railway network with a strategic focus on mobility, logistics, and regional development.
