Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted that the country is transitioning toward a truly humanistic, free, and accessible health system, supported by the consolidation of institutions such as IMSS, ISSSTE, and IMSS Bienestar. During her morning press conference, she stated that today’s achievements surpass the now-defunct Seguro Popular, which she described as a model plagued by corruption.

“What we have today is far better than Seguro Popular. Now we have programs like Dignified Care at ISSSTE, greater surgical capacity at IMSS, and an IMSS Bienestar operating from the ground with regional medical teams,” Sheinbaum said as she presented the latest progress in the health sector.

IMSS Director Zoé Robledo Aburto announced that over 2 million surgeries are planned for 2025, with 500,000 already performed. To meet this goal, measures include surgeries seven days a week, hiring additional surgical staff, modernizing medical equipment, and launching the Single Registry of Needs (RUN) to streamline administrative procedures.

ISSSTE head Martí Batres Guadarrama presented the Dignified Care Strategy, based on 10 actions that include humanization workshops for staff, care protocols, patient service modules, constant emergency room monitoring, and a new phone support system via 55 4000 1000.

Meanwhile, IMSS Bienestar Director Alejandro Svarch Pérez reported that 212 regional medical teams are now operating to provide direct and continuous care across the country. This model aims to deliver 50 million general consultations, 5 million specialty consultations, and 1 million surgeries annually.

Sheinbaum also underscored progress in the Consolidated Procurement Model for Medicines and Medical Supplies, which has ensured a 94.3% supply rate at IMSS, 90% at ISSSTE, and 87% at IMSS Bienestar. According to Undersecretary Eduardo Clark García Dobarganes, this system has generated savings of 38.6 billion pesos compared to reference prices, thanks to transparent purchases, reverse auctions, and the urgent acquisition of priority medications.

Through these efforts, the Government of Mexico reaffirms its commitment to guaranteeing the right to health, improving patient care, and managing public resources responsibly and efficiently.
